how it works

When responder makes a 1-level suit response and RHO overcalls at the 2-level, opener's double promises exactly 3 cards in partner's suit (any strength). This lets responder infer that a direct raise to 2 of their suit shows 4+ trumps — precise trump-length disclosure that was otherwise impossible.
